An Old Byloos Drawing Series: Chris Ware’s Jimmy Corrigan
Byloos Drawing Series: Chris Ware's Jimmy Corrigan 1
I’ve gone through any number of small, closed drawings series since (and during) grad school, back in 1999-2001. Recently, I found these images from a series that I worked on back in 2003 and 04, if I remember correctly. The idea was to take these very loose, minimally gestural backgrounds, and work up drawings of the (mostly domestic) interiors from the pages of Jimmy Corrigan cartoons, as drawn by Chris Ware. Photos From the Group Show: Front and Center
February 2009; Curated by Kimberly Johansson
Location: Headlands Center for the Arts, Marin, SF, CA.
Here is a detail view of my painting as installed at the Headlands Center for the Arts, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge outside of San Francisco. This group exhibition brought together works from California artists who were all finalists for the residency program in 2009. Though I was nominated for a Diebenkorn Fellowship that year, I did not get it. The group show was great, lots of people in attendance and of course, that part of the state in the winter time is amazing.

Weekend in Portland: Powell’s Books Main Store Downtown
At the very start of a great weekend in Portland these past few days, this great surprise happened. I finally made the pilgrimage to the book-Mecca of the States, Powell’s main store in downtown Portland. I had no idea if Don’t Smell the Floss would be carried, but hoped against hope that at the very least, a few Write Bloody titles would be on the shelf. We headed in the direction of the poetry books, and found a complete section for journals and independent small press publishers. What did we find?
